BMW 328i Oil Selection: Match the Engine and Required Approval
Choose BMW 328i oil by the requirement for the exact vehicle, then confirm viscosity, service quantity and filter. A model badge alone is not enough.

Identify the exact 328i before choosing oil
Record the model year, chassis, engine, market and vehicle configuration. An E90 or F30 label is useful for finding the right catalog section, but it should not replace the oil requirement for the vehicle being serviced.
Compare that requirement with the exact product’s published approval and viscosity. Do not select an oil solely because the bottle says synthetic or European formula, or because the same viscosity appears in another BMW listing.
Separate approval from recommendation
A retailer may put formally approved specifications and recommended applications in separate lists. Read those distinctions carefully. A recommendation mentioning BMW Longlife-01 is not automatically evidence of a Longlife-01 approval.
For example, the reviewed ECS and Turner Top Tec4200 pages distinguish their BMW Longlife-04 specification listing from Longlife-01 recommendations. Those pages do not establish the exact approved oil choice for every E90 or F30 328i. This article therefore does not supply a direct oil recommendation based on that association.
Confirm service quantity and filter separately
Use the quantity for the exact engine and oil-change operation. State whether the figure includes filter replacement; do not turn a bottle size or a remembered engine-family range into the required fill amount.
Match the filter and any seals or service hardware by exact part reference and retailer application information. A Porsche oil-change kit, another BMW engine’s pump, or a similarly named gasket is not a substitute for the required 328i service item.
Check the complete order before buying
Confirm the required approval, permitted viscosity, vehicle configuration, service quantity and correct filter. Resolve any mismatch before selecting a retailer offer. Current price, availability and returns belong to that merchant’s listing.
No commercial oil offer is shown here until it can be connected to an appropriate supported requirement. This does not place the separately approved product pages on hold; it keeps this particular 328i recommendation from implying an application that the reviewed sources have not established.

Founder, European Wholesale Parts
Lee Shahin founded European Wholesale Parts in Pleasanton, California, after 18 years in the Mercedes-Benz and BMW parts trade. He came to the parts side from the shop floor: he opened a European repair shop in Northern California in the early 1990s, specialising in Mercedes-Benz and BMW, and grew it with his wife Laurie into a parts and delivery operation serving body shops and independent repair facilities across the region. Nearly two decades at the parts counter taught him where the expensive mistakes happen, and most of them are fluids: the wrong coolant in an aluminium block, an oil without the sheet approval the engine was designed for, a transmission topped with the wrong ATF. That is what he writes about here. Every article names the manufacturer specification by its exact designation, explains what the wrong fluid does mechanically, lists products that carry the approval, and gives the capacity and interval for the models and years the specification covers. When a reader needs a part sourced, the quote desk at European Wholesale Parts is where Lee and Laurie still answer the phone.
